O&B Planning to Offer Request for Proposal Study (RFP) Services

Orange & Bronze is planning to provide ‘’Request for Proposal Study (RFP)'’ services for its clients by next year. According to Martin Mamonluk, Business Analyst and Project Manager of O&B, the plan will push through “if the project goes well with our first client. Then we [O&B] can start offering the RFP study as part of our services to our clients and for companies looking for external parties to do the study for them.”

RFP is a document that contains a company’s expectations and needs for a proposed system, including the company policies and project requirements, for its consultant or contractor. It then serves as an invitation for prospective consultants or constructors to evaluate and submit a project proposal for a specific service asked by the client. The latter will then decide through a bidding process which among the submitted proposals clearly meet their requirements. The project is then awarded to the project proposal that accurately captures the requirements of the proposed system. An RFP’s importance lies on its ability to introduce the project to possible consultants or contractors, and identify its requirements.

Asked for the benefits of providing RFP services to companies, Mamonluk said, “Getting an external party to do the the RFP study benefits the company issuing it since it removes all biases from the company stakeholders and allows external parties to analyze, evaluate and even give recommendations on the proposed system.”

Enterprise Architects’ Boot Camp

O&B will hold an Enterprise Architects’ Boot Camp in the middle of February 2008 for Xybersolutions Inc., the GO-TO content provider for all branded content. The boot camp will focus on the following: emphasis on the software engineering portion — unit tests, design patterns, version control, automating builds and continuous integration. Xybersolutions Inc. hopes to develop skilled software architects from their current pool of developers.

Calen Legaspi, SCEA, and O&B Chief Technology Officer Butch Landingin will conduct the Enterprise Architects’ Boot Camp.

JSF Training with Cambridge University Press Org. (Manila)

Last January 7-14, O&B’s Chief Technology Officer Butch Landingin, and Java Boot Camp Practice Head Owie Saliendra conducted the JSF training for the developers of Cambridge University Press Org (Manila). This training is for the imparting of knowledge and skill to the developers in Cambridge who have yet to familiarize themselves with JSF.

Hibernate Framework Training & other Java Technology courses

Starting this February, Orange & Bronze Software Labs will now offer Java courses to software engineers and companies sending small developer groups. We are currently offering courses on Hibernate, an object-relational mapping framework that is used heavily in the industry today. This course is designed for experienced developers who would like to gain more depth on Hibernate and ORM frameworks in general.

For the past three years now, Orange & Bronze has been conducting Java trainings for both new hires and Architect-level developers of companies belonging to the Philippine Software Industry. Orange & Bronze developed the Java Boot Camp curriculum which is acknowledged and endorsed by TESDA, and have since developed specialized courses that caters to more experienced Java developers. O&B Java Trainings Now Open to the Public

Starting January of next year, Orange and Bronze will be extending its training services to the public. Chelle Gray, Head of O&B’s Business Development and Administration, has confirmed that the all-year round trainings for individual IT practitioners and career shifters will commence next year.

It is believed that the move will not only satisfy the unmet public demand for Java Trainings. According to John Fabra, Business Development Officer of O&B, “Company clients, as well as prospective clients, will also benefit from the opening because it will lessen the expense of training costs for them.”

O&B Software Architects to Present in OS Summit Asia 2007 in HK

Two software architects from Orange & Bronze are expected to attend the OS Summit Asia later this year. Butch Landingin, Chief Technology Officer, and Jan Michael Ibanez, Software Architect, of Orange & Bronze are among the chosen speakers of this year’s largest open source community conference in Asia.

The event is a first-time collaboration of two of the leading organizations in the open source community, Apache Software Foundation and Eclipse Foundation. This joint venture is in response to the growing support for the open source technology in Asia over the recent years.

Aside from various activities planned by the organizers, the conference will feature a small number of speakers to talk on new technologies, development methods, business and marketing, and licensing issues in open source software. Interested speakers were asked to submit topic proposals to a conference selection committee, the same committee which approved of Landingin’s and Ibanez’s proposals.

Landingin, author of a news publication software, Squidshot will talk on how to integrate the Eclipse BIRT Framework with the Spring Framework. Ibanez will conduct a session on how to use Memcahe in Java as way of increasing performance of Java enterprise applications.

OS Summit Asia 2007 will be held at the Le Meridian Hotel located in Hong Kong’s Cyberport IT Development Zone. This 5-day event will start on the 26th and end on the 30th of November.

O&B Provides Course on Supporting Enterprise Java for Customer Support

Infomax, a solutions provider company in content and Systems Management, has deployed its support personnel to a 4-day training on Java and Java EE support. Orange & Bronze began conducting the training, appropriately entitled, Supporting Enterprise Java, on the 25th of September. The goal of the training is to ensure that Infomax’s will have an improved support for their products.

O&B Australia now open for business

Orange & Bronze Australia began operations last September of 2007 under the leadership of Paul Jones. As Director, he will be in-charge of coordinating the company’s operations both in Australia and New Zealand.
Jones has been in the software industry for over 8 years. He has worked as General Manager of STM, an international software company specializing in retail applications for the fast-food industry, and has handled several projects for Shell Oil Company in the Asia Pacific Region. Among his clients from STM are industry giants such as Burger King, Red Rooster, Hungry Jacks, and Dominos Pizza. For his stint with Shell, Paul was able to design and implement solutions in automating the company’s ordering and stock replenishment system.

JAVA Boot Camp for University Professors to be conducted by O&B.

Orange & Bronze is currently conducting a five-week Java Boot Camp for Computer Science Professors from some of the colleges and universities in the region. The list of school participants includes:

Technological Institute of the Phils (TIP),
Jose Rizal University (JRU),
Far Eastern University - East Asia (FEU),
Asian College of Science and Technology (ACSAT),
University of the East (UE),
Asia Pacific College (APC),
Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC).

The event is an initiative of the Philippines Software Industry Association (PSIA) to bridge IT companies with the academe. PSIA saw the need for instructors to be up to date on the latest information, technology, and current practices in the IT industry. This will narrow the gap between what is being taught in the classrooms and what is needed by the industry.
The Boot Camp started on the 24th of September, and is expected to be completed by the 29th of October.
